There are several components used in bolted connections that perform different functions. One of them is the washer, which acts as an auxiliary part. Its purpose is to separate the nut from the material to be joined, which strengthens the connection and eliminates the risk of loosening. The use of a washer also makes it possible to increase the pressure surface of the joint on the material to be joined.

In practice, washers are divided into:

• levelling – they compensate for the inclination of the joining element,
• protecting against unscrewing – in this area, among others, spring models are distinguished,
• ordinary – they protect the connected elements from scratching or crushing, and such damage is not difficult when a screw is tightened.
